The government of Nepal has introduced the Public Private Partnership (PPP) Policy aimed to close the gap between funding and project preparation in the country and to assist developers to implement PPP projects.

After discussions with stakeholder for over two years, the government has finally been able to present this PPP policy, intending to improve the infrastructure sector with the private sector assistance.

The policy incorporates a provision on ‘unsolicited proposal’, which paves the way for private developers to directly approach the government for carrying out projects.

As we reported in late July, the Government of Nepal also established a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Center to make investment arrangements for infrastructure and service-based projects. 

The center in the first stage aims to facilitate projects of PPP model that require investment of over NPR100 million (US$900,000). Experts about infrastructure and investment will also be included in the center. Staffers of the line ministries that implement the projects will also be provided necessary training for negotiation with the private sector and facilitation.
