NEOM has engaged Delugan Meissl Associate Architects (DMAA), Gensler, and Mott MacDonald as partners to deliver core city planning, design, and engineering services for the first phase of THE LINE, the sustainable city emerging in northwest Saudi Arabia.
DMAA has been appointed as the lead urban designer for Phase One, responsible for creating both the concept and detailed master plan. They will also help NEOM uphold the design vision as neighborhood architects join. DMAA collaborates with specialists in areas such as microclimate, ecology, mobility, logistics, and sustainability.
NEOM has selected Gensler as the city planning consultant for Phase One, a role crucial due to the project’s scale and complexity. Gensler will oversee city design coordination and planning, guiding policy development, land use, and design compliance. They will also act as city asset design architect for essential infrastructure, including transport hubs and public spaces.
Mott MacDonald has joined as the city infrastructure engineer for NEOM’s Phase One, managing the design and sustainability of structural and utility systems. This role focuses on ensuring the city’s infrastructure is both functional and efficient. With over 120 foundation piles being placed weekly, The Line project is advancing to become one of the largest piling operations to date.
These partners are working with THE LINE’s design and project teams to offer urban design, planning consulting, and infrastructure development for the city’s initial phase. This phase will be followed by neighborhood planning and design, led by a group of architects beginning in early 2025.
