North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) in the USA is actively discussing the unsolicited proposal received for the replacement of Caper Fear bridge in Wilmington. NCDOT is conducting meetings with local county officials to move forward with the idea of the redevelopment of the bridge and add tolling lanes. Kure Beach Town Council has already decided to support NCDOT in exploring the unsolicited proposal. NCDOT had presented the details to Wilmington Urban Area Metropolitan Planning Organization Board (WMPO) for the project.
If WMPO decides to pursue the idea, NCDOT will move forward with the project and start a competitive proposal for the development. The unsolicited proposal from the private company included a fully-funded 135-feet fixed-span bridge with tolling lanes.
