Solihull Council has secured financing from the National Wealth Fund (NWF) to help deliver its ambitious town centre energy network.
The newly developed network will supply low-carbon heating, hot water, and electricity to various buildings in the town center, lowering energy costs and adapting to future energy demands. It is the first heat network to secure funding from the National Wealth Fund, receiving a GBP 9.6 million (US$ 12 million) loan through its Local Authority function. The initial phase of Solihull’s network will supply heat and electricity to both public and private sector buildings, including Council-owned properties and educational institutions. Future expansions aim to connect additional town center buildings and integrate with upcoming commercial and residential developments, aligning with the Council’s Town Centre Masterplan.
Vital Energi is responsible for designing, constructing, operating, and maintaining the new network. As a key player in the low-carbon energy sector, the company has successfully delivered major heat networks, including Leeds PIPES and Mersey Heat.
