Munich Airport International GmbH (MAI) will shortly take over operations, maintenance and concessions functions of Terminal A of Newark Liberty International Airport, the primary airport serving the northeastern US state of New Jersey.
The terminal is scheduled to close in 2022, being replaced by a new Terminal One, which MAI will operate under a 15-year agreement approved by the Board of Commissioners of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey last month.
The US$2.7 billion terminal will span approximately one million square feet (around 930,000 square meters) of space and be able to accommodate 13.6 million passengers across three levels. It will have 33 common-use gates to handle larger aircraft and modernized check-in, security and baggage claim areas.
MAI will make short-term customer enhancements to Terminal A while the new terminal is being constructed.
