Morocco's Ministry of Equipment, Transport and Water has announced plans for the development of a seawater desalination plant in Casablanca as part of the country’s Water National Plan 2020-2050, seeking to address the challenge of water scarcity in Morocco. A site for desalination facilities has been identified and samples were taken to examine the quality of water.
The estimated budget for the project is MAD9.5 billion (US$1.056 billion). The plant will be operational by the end of 2027 and will produce 300 million m³ of desalinated water annually.
