The Chilean Ministry of Public Works (MOP) announced the economic offer of the bidding group Belfi-Icafal for the Second Concession of the La Araucanía Airport.

The Belfi-Icafal consortium is set to be awarded the second concession for La Araucanía Airport, offering a Total Concession Income (ITC) of UF 1,970,000 for its construction and operation. With a budget of approximately US$138 million, the project includes a 26-year concession period, expected to be granted in early 2025, with construction starting in 2027. Upon completion in 2030, the expanded terminal will be four times its current size and accommodate over 3 million passengers annually. The airport modernization highlights the increase in its surface area, which has quadrupled from the current 5,570 m2 to 22,276 m2. This project is very important for the Los Ríos and Los Lagos regions since it considers an estimated investment of USD 273 million and includes the Pichoy, Cañal Bajo, Tepual and Mocopulli airports.

The Second Concession of the Araucanía Airport also includes 152 new vehicle parking spaces, which will bring the total to 508 (today there are 356), two new parking spaces for commercial aircraft (today there are 4, so in the future there will be 6) and two new boarding bridges, which are added to the three already existing ones. The project also includes the expansion of the aircraft platform, which will increase by 20,224 m2, from 22,270 m2 to 42,994 m2. In addition, DGAC buildings will be expanded and the cargo area and access roads to the premises will be improved.
