The Chilean Ministry of Public Works (MOP) has awarded the Northern Airport Network projects which involve a total investment of USD 316 million, including the Second Concession of the Atacama Desert Airport, in Caldera, and the Third Concession of the Andrés Sabella Airport, in Antofagasta.

The Atacama Airport expansion will enlarge the passenger terminal by 15,322 m² to a total of 18,274 m², marking a 519% increase in space. The project will add four boarding bridges, 161 new parking spaces (bringing the total to 343), and two additional aircraft spaces. Passenger services will include 10 self-check-in kiosks, 16 check-in counters, four airport security stations, four immigration control points, three baggage claim belts, and a customs control post for international flights.

The Andrés Sabella Airport expansion will add 21,230 m² to reach a total area of 31,422 m², a 208% increase. The project includes 281 additional parking spaces (totaling 853), two more aircraft positions, five new boarding bridges, 10 self-check-in kiosks, 26 counters, and enhanced security with five AVSEC and six immigration checkpoints. New facilities include a customs checkpoint and five baggage claim carousels, improving passenger service capacity and infrastructure.

The Sacyr-Cointer consortium will manage operations and upgrades at both airports, with plans to expand terminal areas, add boarding bridges, and increase parking capacity. Construction is expected to start in 2027, with the enhanced facilities at both airports projected to open in 2030.
