The County of Miami-Dade has approved an unsolicited proposal for the Rickenbacker Causeway project, which involves the replacement and improvement of the Venetian Causeway and several bridges in Florida, USA. The resolution allows continuing the planning with the request of proposal (RFP), eventually leading to a bidding process.
The proposal was submitted on March 2021 by the Plan Z Consortium, consisting of Partners Group, Zyscovich Architects and J. Kardys Strategies LLC. The proposed project aims to provide a solution for vehicles, bicycle and pedestrian safety improvements by the development and expansion of parkland and beachfront along the Rickenbacker Causeway, replacement of Bear Cut Bridge, and sea-level rise coastal resiliency improvements as well as maintenance of the Rickenbacker and Venetian Causeways.
RFP is planned to be issued in August for approximately 90 days with the goal to gather proposals from prospective bidders to challenge the Plan Z Consortium and select the best one. The selected partner will be responsible for the design, build, finance, operation and maintenance of the project.
