The Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT) in Mexico has awarded the concession contract for the Celaya railway bypass project to Kansas City Southern (KCS) and its subsidiary Kansas City Southern de México.
KCS will be responsible for the development of two new routes which will bypass Celaya city, Guanajuato, Mexico and eliminate 15-grade crossing for faster service. It will reduce the travel time by approximately 80 minutes. SICT has also agreed to grant exclusivity rights to KCS for an additional 10 years with the concession expiring in 2037.
The estimated investment value for the project is MXN4 billion (US$196.01 million). The construction works for the project are expected to start before the end of this year.
