The government of Mexico is planning to launch 20 road concessions over the course of 2019 with a total investment of MXN27.3 billion (US$1.44 billion). To be developed through public-private partnerships, the roads concerned will span 300km.
This is part of the National Programme of Road Infrastructure 2018-2014, recently announced by the President of Mexico. Including both public-private and federal investments, the President outlined that around MXN78 billion (US$4.1 billion) will be invested in 40,000km of federal roads in 2019. This is the largest investment in road infrastructure in Mexico in the last 24 years.
As well as public-private partnerships, the government plans to study the potential of other forms of private investment that could contribute to the development of national roadways.
The programme has three focus areas: maintenance of roads and highways, completion of unfinished road projects and the paving of roads to municipal capitals. Presumably this will be reflected in the concessions tendered this year.
