Meridiam and its partners inaugurated the Olsztyn Waste-to-Energy (WTE) PPP project in north-eastern Poland.
This WTE plant will handle more than 100,000 tons of non-recycled and non-biodegradable waste per year, contributing to the EU waste treatment regulations by significantly reducing reliance on landfills. The decarbonization of the energy produced by transitioning away from coal, the Olsztyn WTE plant will thus avoid the emissions of 100,000 tons of CO2 every year.
Meridiam is a 95% shareholder of the project, which consisted of the design, construction, financing, and currently the operation and maintenance of the WTE plant for 25 years. It represents an investment of more than EUR 230 million (US$ 238 million), including EU subsidies of over EUR 54 million (US$ 56 million).
