Mexico’s Government has announced the construction progress of the Maya train line that runs from Campeche to Cancún across the top of the Yucatán peninsula.
Construction on the 480 km section of the line is currently 80% complete. The "Tren Maya" initiative is divided into five segments, spanning approximately 1,500km. With 16 stations, the railway aims to reduce travel time and expenses for both passengers and cargo transportation in the states of Tabasco, Chiapas, Campeche, Yucatán, and Quintana Roo.
In August 2023, testing will commence for Mexico's Mayan train line after the first diesel trains from France’s Alstom arrive on 8 July 2023.
