The Maryland Board of Public Works (BPW) in the USA has voted to advance the public-private partnership for Traffic Relief Plan which includes implementation of 'Capital Beltway Accord' to build a new American Legion Bridge.
Washington capital region is the second-worst traffic congestion area in the USA, which affects economic growth, the competitiveness of the region and the quality of life. The improvements in these corridors require an estimated investment of US$ 1.7 billion.
The vote approves investment in regional transit service improvements and delivery of the P3 Program. The program will be implemented in phases. The first section to be delivered under Phase 1 will be along I-495 from south of the George Washington Memorial Parkway to I-270 and along I-270 from I-495 to I-370.
The timeline for the projects has also been published by the contracting authority Maryland Department of Transportation. RFQ for phase 1 of I-495 and I-270 is due to release on February 07, 2020.
