Southern Water Services Ltd. is conducting a market engagement exercise for the Hampshire Water Transfer and Water Recycling Project (Phase 3), which aims to enhance long-term water supply resilience through innovative construction work, including tunneling in Hampshire, UK.

The project comprises the construction and operation of the following:

  • A water recycling plant will be built near Budds Farm Wastewater Treatment Works in Havant, featuring three pumping stations. Pipelines will connect Budds Farm to the plant, transferring treated wastewater for recycling and reject water to the Eastney Long Sea Outfall.
  • Pipelines will connect the water recycling plant to Bedhampton Springs and link with Portsmouth Water’s pipelines to Havant Thicket Reservoir. These pipelines will transport purified recycled water to the reservoir and return source water to the high-lift pumping station. As a backup, additional underground pipelines will directly transfer recycled water to the reservoir and source water back to the pumping station.
  • An underground pipeline will transfer source water from the high-lift pumping station at the water recycling plant to the Otterbourne Water Supply Works. During drought conditions, it can deliver up to 90 million liters of water daily for further treatment.
  • A maximum of four above-ground structures, including two intermediate pumping stations, one break pressure tank, and one combined station, will be installed along the pipeline between the high-lift pumping station and Otterbourne Water Supply Works. These facilities are essential to maintain water flow through the pipeline.
  • In addition, The Havant Thicket Reservoir will store purified recycled water from the recycling plant, with Portsmouth Water's proposed pipelines facilitating transfers between Bedhampton Springs and the reservoir. Reject water will be discharged via the Eastney Long Sea Outfall into the Solent. The project also includes related infrastructure, such as construction compounds, access routes, and environmental enhancements.

The project, valued at approximately GBP 1.3 billion (US$ 1.64 billion), offers substantial business opportunities in construction, engineering, and water services. Specialists in tunneling, pipeline construction, water recycling equipment, and related fields, as well as investors and supply chain partners, can benefit significantly. Southern Water encourages interested parties to participate by responding to its Request for Information, joining virtual meetings, and engaging in ongoing market activities. The deadline for responding to the Request for Information is November 22, 2024. For additional details about this tender, please visit our Business Opportunity page here.
