Management and Operation documents signed for multibillion high-speed rail network in Egypt

The National Authority for Tunnels has signed a conditions document with Deutsche Bahn and El Sewedy Electric for the management and operation of the rapid electric train network in Egypt.

Deutsche Bahn along with El Sewedy Electric will form a company named Deutsche Ban Egypt that will manage and operate the 2,000 km high-speed rail network which consists of three lines: 

  1. A 660 km line connecting the port cities of Ain Sokhna on the Red Sea to Marsa Matrouh and Alexandria on the Mediterranean;
  2. A 1,100 km line between Cairo and Abu Simbel near the Sudan border, linking the mega city to rising economic centers in the south;
  3. A 225 km that connects world heritage archeological sites in Luxor with Hurghada by the Red Sea.

The final contract will include managing and operating the network for a period of 15 years, renewable for another 15 years, with a total contract period of 30 years.
