Digital Nasional Bhd (DNB), an SPV of the Ministry of Finance, which is responsible for the development of 5G telecommunication and broadband network across Malaysia, has awarded the 5G rollout concession to Ericsson. The concession involves designing and construction works for the 5G network in Putrajaya, Cyberjaya, and some parts of Kuala Lumpur. The estimated investment value of the project is MYR11 billion (US$2.64 billion).
As part of the concession, Ericsson will also arrange financing and manage the network once it is operational. The network will cover core, radio access and transport network, operation and business support systems and managed systems as well as support for local vendors.
Digital Nasional Bhd is expecting to launch 5G services by the end of 2021 in Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya.
