Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) and APM Terminals, a subsidiary of the Maersk Group, have decided to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to work together under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) for the development of Laldia Container Terminal in the Bay of Bengal, Bangladesh.
The agreement, scheduled for signing upon the conclusion of an exhaustive feasibility study and negotiations, will establish a Government-to-Government (G2G) collaboration between Bangladesh and Denmark for the construction of infrastructure. The Laldia Container Terminal project was formally introduced during the inaugural G2G PPP Platform meeting, where APM Terminals committed to the project under the G2G PPP model. The proposed Laldia Container Terminal, spanning 450 m with a berth depth of 10.5 m and a vessel draft of 9.5 m, aims to meet the growing demand for efficient and sustainable container handling services in Bangladesh. The anticipated investment ranges from USD 300-400 million, complemented by Foreign Direct Investment (FDI). Envisaged project benefits include initiatives for technology transfer, the introduction of intelligent port practices, management of net carbon emissions, reduced ship turnaround times, and the promotion of port competition.
