King Salman International Airport Development Company (KSIADC) has appointed Mace as a delivery partner to oversee the planning and construction of its airport development program in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Mace, the global consultancy and construction firm, will lead the full range of delivery partner services for a six-runway airport, in collaboration with KSIADC, owned by Saudi’s Public Investment Fund (PIF). Their role includes project and program management, PMO and planning, construction management, cost and commercial management, procurement, logistics, health and safety strategy, and advisory services for sustainability, environmental concerns, and carbon reduction.
Foster + Partners, after winning the airport design in 2022, has been selected to prepare its master plan, which covers 12 sq km and includes residential and recreational facilities, shops, and transport links. The plan features a green infrastructure corridor called the Wadi Loop, which will connect the surrounding urban area to a seasonal river. Foster + Partners will collaborate with American engineer Jacobs on the concept and detailed master plan, as well as the design of certain assets.
King Salman International Airport will span 57 sqkm and is expected to welcome more than 100 million passengers when it opens in 2030. In addition to providing direct benefits for passengers such as a seamless airport journey, recreational facilities, significantly improved cargo and logistics capability, and an extensive retail and leisure offering, the airport will deliver social value for Saudi Arabia. The airport will serve as a hub for visitors travelling to Riyadh Expo 2030 and FIFA World Cup 2034.
