The Land Transport Authority (LTA) of Singapore has awarded a USD 590 million contract to KTC Civil Engineering and Construction (KTC) for the design and construction of the Jurong Lake District MRT station and its associated tunnels.
This project is part of Phase 2 of the Cross Island Line (CRL). Construction works are expected to begin in Q4 2024, with passenger service expected to start in 2032, in line with the completion of CRL Phase 2. The CRL, Singapore’s eighth MRT line, will enhance connectivity across the eastern, north-eastern, and western corridors, linking key areas such as Jurong Lake District, Punggol Digital District, and the Changi region. Nearly half of the CRL stations will serve as interchanges with other MRT lines, improving travel convenience across the network.
Upon completion, travel time from Jurong Lake District to Pasir Ris Central will be reduced to 55 minutes, compared to the current 1 hour and 15 minutes via the East-West Line. Similarly, the journey to Sunset Way in Clementi will take just 20 minutes, compared to the current 40 minutes by bus and MRT on the East-West Line. KTC is currently involved in the construction of Maju station on the CRL and Sungei Bedok station on the Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL). The construction of the Jurong Lake District station will involve deep excavation works near the Ayer Rajah Expressway, with safety measures including earth retaining and stabilizing structures to ensure ground stability. The CRL will be built in three phases Phase 1, announced in 2019, spans 29 km and includes 12 stations from Aviation Park to Bright Hill, and is expected to be completed by 2030. Phase 2, announced in September 2022, covers 15 km with six stations from Turf City to Jurong Lake District, set to be completed by 2032.
