LRV supplier contract awarded for USD4 billion transit PPP project in Canada

The Green Line Board and the City of Calgary have awarded contract to supply a new fleet of Light Rail Vehicles (LRVs) for the Green Line LRT PPP Project.

The selected supplier is CAF (Construcciones y Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles). The contract includes 28 low-floor LRVs, which will improve accessibility, reduce station footprint and enhance safety for pedestrians and vehicles. In addition, the City has a right to procure additional vehicles for future Green Line stages along with tools and support for operating and maintaining this new fleet. The competitive procurement process has begun in February 2019.

This LRV contract together with the updated procurement schedule for the Design-Build-Finance contractor of Phase 1 DBF is a strong path forward for the project. Green Line LRT has CAD4.9 billion (US$4.04 billion) in funding commitments from the Government of Canada, the Government of Alberta and the City of Calgary. Phase 1 will connect Shepard to Eau Claire, while Phase 2 covers from Eau Claire to 16 Avenue N. Phase 1 of Green Line will connect more than 55,000 riders to Calgary’s transit network.
