Livorno port tenders terminal concession

Livorno Port Authority, Italy, has launched a tender process to develop the phase I of a new deepwater container facility, The Europa Platform, through the PPP model.

The preferred bidder will be responsible for the design, construction, finance, operation and maintenance of the new facilities during the concession period.

The new platform is expected to consist of the following salient features, designed to attract the largest container vessels to the port:

  • one main berth of 900 m length with the possibility of extending a further 220 m (latter will require dredging from 5 m to at least 16 m) and a feeder berth of 550 m;
  • depth alongside of 16 m at main berth and 13 m at feeder berth;
  • approach depth of 15 m to be dredged to 17 m, and a turning circle of 600 m diameter and 16.0m depth;
  • initial plan for nine STS gantry cranes are to be provided by the terminal operator, although there is potential for this to be increased to eleven to improve terminal efficiencies;
  • terminal area of 42 ha adjacent to the main berth, plus the possibility of a further 30 ha of land which is currently not paved;
  • further possibilities to extend berth parallel to main berth although this will necessitate moving the existing oil terminal and further dredging.

The Port of Livorno is situated on the Tyrrhenian Sea in the north-western part of Tuscany. The port is divided in Porto Vecchio (Old Port) and Porto Nuovo (New Port) and is composed of four main basins.

Interested parties must submit their request to participate on or before 2 March 2016.
