AECOM announced that it has been selected as Lead Designer for the landmark Brent Spence Bridge Corridor Project in Ohio, USA.
In the role of Lead Designer, AECOM is set to offer comprehensive design and engineering expertise to spearhead essential enhancements aimed at enhancing safety and traffic flow. These improvements encompass augmenting capacity between the states, refining the intricate interchange geometry, and modernizing the interstate over a significant stretch into Kentucky. AECOM will directly undertake design tasks and oversee the project, leading a team of subcontractors, including Jacobs and other engineering firms. Within these services, AECOM assumes the responsibility of serving as the Engineer of Record for the new double-decked companion bridge spanning the Ohio River and extending southward through Kentucky to facilitate seamless connectivity. The contract also encompasses the restoration of the existing Brent Spence Bridge to its original design concept, featuring 3 lanes for travel in each direction and emergency shoulders on both sides.
The project's objective is to revamp and restore the Brent Spence Bridge, a critical conduit for travelers on Interstates 71 and 75 connecting Ohio and Kentucky. Additionally, a new companion bridge will be erected to alleviate congestion. The overarching goal of the project is to enhance traffic movement and safety while safeguarding vital regional and national transportation routes.
