The Ministry of Planning and Investment of Laos has selected Korea Airports Corporation (KAC) as a provider of feasibility studies for the Airport Expansion PPP project. Bidding for the first part of the project began in January. The estimated capital value of the development is KRW100 billion (US$88.40 million). The project is expected to take 10-30 years to complete.
The KAC is planning to conduct the project in two phases- feasibility study and construction. The first phase will include a six-month-long feasibility assessment, including demand prediction, airport operation system improvement plan and environmental impact assessment. The second phase is focused on the formation of a Team Korea consortium to implement airport facility improvements and expansion.
Located in Luang Prabang, the international airport accommodates up to 1.2 million passengers per year. The city is a famous tourist destination in the northern region.
