The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) has signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) with Aerial Rapid Transit Technologies (ARTT) for the development of an aerial gondola linking Union Station to Dodger Stadium.
Union Station is the main rail station in Los Angeles, located in southern California. Dodger Stadium is a baseball park located in the Elysian Park neighborhood of the city, home to the Los Angeles Dodgers.
ARTT submitted an unsolicited proposal for the project, which includes private financing, under Metro's Unsolicited Proposal program, launched in 2016 to stimulate partnerships with the private companies to support transport development.
The signed LOI enables the proposal to move to the evaluation stage. Metro and ARTT will now negotiate to reach agreements on roles and responsibilities for planning and constructing the gondola. ARTT projects that the gondola could commence operations in 2022.
ARTT was established by McCourt Global, an investment firm led by the former owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers.
