Kenya’s state-owned power producer, Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen), has launched a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) of qualified bidders for the financing, design, supply, construction, commissioning, operation and maintenance of the 140 MW Olkaria Public-Private-Partnership Geothermal Power Project.
The project will be built Olkaria, Nakuru Country on a Build, Own, Operate, Transfer (BOOT) basis.
KenGen will provide providing steam under a 25-year steam supply agreement. Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) has signed a 25-year power purchase agreement with the project developers for the energy output of the facility.
The Project will be developed through a special purpose vehicle incorporated under Kenyan Law. KenGen shall have the right to make a cash investment in the SPV constituting ownership participation of 25% in the SPV.
The deadline for the tender is on December 23, 2019.
