Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen) has announced the commissioning of Unit 6 of the Olkaria Geothermal Power Project in Nakuru County, Kenya.
Unit 6 adds 83 MW of electricity to the national grid, pushing the share of geothermal energy in Kenya from 37.3% to 42%.
The Olkaria project involves the development of a 140 MW geothermal power plant under a Build, Own, Operate, Transfer (BOOT) basis of the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) scheme. The construction of the plant started in December 2018.
