John Laing Investments Limited (JLIL), the holding company for joint shareholders Equitix and John Laing (which is wholly owned by KKR) announced the acquisition of the remaining shareholder stakes in the I-75 Modernisation Project in Michigan, U.S. increasing its ownership to 100%.
Before this acquisition, JLIL owned a 70% stake in Oakland Corridor Partners. The project focused on modernizing Segment 3 of the I-75 corridor in southeast Michigan near Detroit. Key features included Michigan's first High-Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lane and a critical drainage tunnel beneath the freeway to address flooding issues. The initiative involved reconstructing a 5.5-mile stretch of I-75, spanning from 8 Mile Road to north of 13 Mile Road. The modernization introduced innovations to reduce congestion, improve safety, and cut costs, and was completed within an accelerated five-year timeline.
