Power and Water Utility Company for Jubail and Yanbu (Marafiq) has announced the receipt of the commercial operation certificate from Saudi Water Partnership Company (SWPC) for the Jeddah Althaniya Water Company to treat wastewater located in Jeddah City, Saudi Arabia.

The project has a treatment capacity projected at 300,000 cubic meters per day. Its primary objective is to address the increasing demand for the treatment of sanitary wastewater in Jeddah by incorporating modern technologies to ensure high treatment efficiency and minimal energy consumption. The plant's design and layout are specifically tailored to generate treated effluent suitable for water reuse, with the added benefit of utilizing its sludge for industrial and commercial purposes.

Marafiq holds a 45% share in Jeddah Althaniya Water Company, the entity responsible for developing the project. The primary project agreement between Jeddah Althaniya Water Company and the Saudi Water Partnership Company commenced on February 25th, 2019, and is set to extend for 25 years from the project's commercial operation date.
