The Ministry of Transportation in Ireland has secured an agreement from the Cabinet of Ireland to move forward with the transformative MetroLink rail project in Dublin, Ireland.
The MetroLink rail consists of a fully segregated mostly underground railway running from north of Swords to Charlemont in the south of Dublin City Centre. The route will include 16 stations and will serve multiple residential communities, including Swords, Ballymun and Glasnevin, as well as the City Centre, Dublin Airport, and major employment, education, transport and other centers. Once operational, MetroLink will have trains every 3 minutes during peak periods.
The capital delivery cost of the project is estimated to be in the range between EUR7.16 billion (US$7.39 billion) and EUR12.25 billion (US$12.64 billion). Approximately 75% of the cost during the construction phase will be paid for by the exchequer and the remaining part will be financed by a Public-Private Partnership (PPP). A more concrete cost will be known following the planning permission and procurement process.
