The Loan Program of the Infrastructure Ontario (IO) has supported CAD16 billion (US$12 billion) in local infrastructure renewal in the east-central part of Canada. The program provides affordable, long-term financing to public sector borrowers enabling them to modernize and renew their infrastructure.
Over 2,800 infrastructure projects of varying sizes and types have been successfully delivered as a result of this home-grown affordable financing solution. With loans ranging in size from CAD18,000 (US$13,600) to over CAD100 million (US$75.6 million). Over the last year, the company has processed and approved 60 loan applications and advanced more than CAD400 million (US$302 million) to clients. The majority of the clients return year after year to avail the program.
The applications processed last year supported over 160 projects, including road projects, water/wastewater projects, and the development of affordable and social housing units. While Ontario municipalities account for the majority of our clientele - representing two-thirds of the total loan portfolio - the company successfully closed over CAD84 million (US$63.5 million) in applications for non-municipal clients in 2018.
The Loan Program has evolved over the years to better meet clients' needs. Whether through broadening the pool of eligible sectors, introducing new products or improving processes, IO is continually looking for ways to build and enhance the program to continue supporting communities.
