Infrastructure Ontario has launched a request for expression (RFQ) for the redevelopment of the QEW Credit River Bridge located in Mississauga, Canada.
The works include addressing the structural needs of the bridge, ensuring the roadway elements (lane width, shoulders, barriers, etc.) meet the current standards and meeting the infrastructure needs to address future improvements to support the Growth Plan for the Greater Golden Horseshoe for the QEW and the Mississauga Road Interchange.
The QEW Credit River Bridge was constructed in 1934 and consisted of two lanes in each direction. It was widened in 1959 to its current configuration which provides a total of 6 lanes. Due to the significance of the QEW corridor, the portion of the highway carries in excess of 200,000 vehicles per day and is a critical component of the provincial highway network supporting commuter and trade traffic. The 250-meter bridge is over 75 years old and recent investigations suggest that the bridge conditions have deteriorated. The bridge is in need of major or repair or replacement. The bridge was last rehabilitated in 1987 and the existing bridge deck from the 1930’s is in very poor condition. Traffic must be removed from the existing structure by the end of 2022.
The deadline for the submission of documents is on June 12, 2019.
