Infraero Serviços is very close to getting off the ground. The new company is about to be created with the government controlling a 51% stake while 49% would go to a foreign partner.
German company Fraport, which operates Frankfurt airport, was "pre-selected" by the government to join Infraero. The news come almost two years after its creation was announced by President Dilma Rousseff, amid plans for a large investment package in Brazilian airports.
The German firm, which operates the Frankfurt airport, chosen in a 2013 expression of interest process that attracted nine companies. Infraero is awaiting the green light from President Dilma Rousseff to move ahead with the deal.
The scope of Infraero Serviços will not be limited to regional airports, since as originally planned it will seek partnerships with state and local governments for the administration of airports in the country's interior. Large terminals currently operated by Infraero may also be transferred to the new unit through management contracts.
According to sources, the new company Infraero Serviços would also participate in international tenders for managing airport projects, especially in Latin America.
