Ministry of Transportation in Indonesia has announced plans to develop a new integrated port in Eastern Indonesia. The new port will be located in 700 hectares of land bordering Waai and Liang villages in Salahutu sub-district, Ambon Island. The port is aimed to become a cargo consolidation center in eastern Indonesia and aid the fish processing industry.
The estimated investment value of the project is IDR5 trillion (US$350.7 million). Initial funding for the project will be provided from APBN funds, and further development will be implemented through a public-private partnership (PPP). The port will provide strategic access for goods exportation to Taiwan, China and Australia.
Construction works are expected to start by end of 2021, while the project is scheduled to be operational by 2023.
