The central government of India has revealed its plan for the second round of airport privatization. Under the proposal, the government is planning to privatize 20 to 25 airports across India which has passenger traffic from 1 million to 1.5 million.
In recent privatization of 6 major airports, Adani has emerged as the highest bidder for a concession to operate, manage and develop airports. The government is expecting more foreign interest in the second phase of privatization. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) is roving competence and capability of the public sector into the privatization of airports.
In February 2019 Airports Authority of India had announced privatization of six airports in Lucknow, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Mangaluru, Thiruvananthapuram, and Guwahati. Out of which union cabinet has chosen Adani as a private partner for the airports in Ahmedabad, Lucknow and Mangaluru. The other three airports will be awarded after clearing of disputes.
