The government of India has pledged to develop five more smart cities under India’s Smart Cities Mission. The announcement to develop five cities was part of the financial budget executed by the ministry of finance in February, 2020. Launched in 2015 under India's smart cities mission the government planned to develop 100 smart cities across India. The aim of the mission is to improve the infrastructure to cope with the growing population.
The smart cities will be developed on a public-private partnership procurement (PPP) mode. This will raise the opportunity to benefit the economy from the upcoming economic corridors; revitalization of manufacturing activities; and growing demand for technology. The location of the cities will be chosen by keeping these three economic benefits.
