The ministry of civil aviation in India has told the Parliament that the Airport Authority of India (AAI) is recommending to lease out 6 airports for operation, management, and development under PPP model. The 6 proposed airports are Varanasi, Amritsar, Bhubaneswar, Trichy, Indore and Raipur.
At the moment these airports are managed by the state-owned AAI. Two of the airports from the list are loss-making: Indore and Raipur.
In February 2019 AAI bid out 6 profit-making airports at Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Lucknow, Trivandrum, Guwahati and Mangalore. Adani Enterprises won the right to develop, manage and operate these airports for a period of 50 years.
