Germany’s state-owned project management organization DEGES has awarded a contract to build a ring-road motorway section in Bremen, Germany.
Implenia, in collaboration with Johann Bunte Bauunternehmen, is finalizing the construction of a motorway encircling the city of Bremen. This joint venture is responsible for constructing section 2/2 of the A 281 motorway, with a total contract value exceeding EUR 130 million(US$ 141 million) gross. Implenia's project share is over EUR 100 million (US$ 108.5 million) gross. Section 2/2 links the existing A 281 segment with the Arsten feeder, connecting to the A 1. The scope of the joint venture contract encompasses the construction of a 1.7 km motorway bypass between Neuenlander Ring and Kattenturmer Heerstrasse near Bremen Airport. A 400 m elevated section will be supported by a prestressed concrete bridge, with initial construction involving support walls with bored pile foundations leading up to the bridge. The contract also involves a 290 m long cutting, an entrance area for a future tunnel beneath Kattenturmer Heerstrasse, and approximately 1 km of four-lane motorway between the southern end of the elevated road and the beginning of the cutting.
Lean Construction methods are employed to manage the project, with construction set to commence in May 2024 and expected completion by early 2029.
