The Illinois state general assembly in the USA passed US$ 45 billion capital infrastructure plan. The plan includes improvement and development for road, bridge, building, and broadband internet projects. The capital infrastructure plan is introduced first time in more than 10 years, made possible by revenue generation expectations from sports betting licenses, increase on state´s cigarette tax, doubling the state motor fuel tax and increased driver's license fees among other things.

The capital infrastructure plan consists of a package of three bills. The state is planning to spend 74% of US$ 45 billion, approximately US$ 33.2 billion on roads and bridges. Lawmakers call this investment horizontal infrastructure.  K-12 and other higher education facilities will get other US$ 3.5 billion which sums to 8% of the total.
