IFC to advise on USD220 million Bus Rapid Transit PPP project in Cameroon

International Finance Corporation (IFC) will act as transaction advisor for Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system project in Douala, Cameroon. The US$ 220 million project will be procured under the public-private partnership (PPP) model. IFC will assist the Government of Cameroon and the Urban Community of Douala in designing and tendering this PPP, which involves works to finance a bus fleet and operate and maintain the BRT system in Douala.

The BRT Project will alleviate the current shortage of public transportation services in Douala, a city of 3.5 million inhabitants. It is expected to contribute to lower transport costs, reduced travel times, the creation of new jobs, increased number of persons with access to transportation; and improved air quality by helping to reduce congestion.

IFC has also prepared  Advisory Services Project Information to disclose a factual summary of the main elements of this advisory services project. It may also include findings and recommendations related to environmental and social considerations regarding this project. The purpose of the ASPI is to enhance the transparency of IFC’s activities.

The project is expected to be completed by July 31, 2023.
