International Finance Corporation (IFC) has signed a contract for the Public lighting public-private partnership (PPP) project in Campinas, Brazil.
The project involves the modernization, expansion, operation and maintenance of the lighting park in Campinas, Brazil. In total, the system features around 122 thousand light points. As part of the modernization, sodium-vapor and mercury lamps will be replaced with LED ones, which consume up to 60% less energy.
The PPP project in Campinas is part of IFC's collaboration with a financial services company Caixa Econômica Federal to develop and implement street lighting projects for Brazilian municipalities. To replace 389,000 lamps with LED technology, the cities of Aracaju, Belém, Feira de Santana, Franco da Rocha and Sapucaia do Sul will receive a private investment of around BRL580 million (US$110 million) for the first stage of the projects.
