Icelandic Road Administration (Vegagerðin) held an open presentation meeting to plan a tender for the Hringvegur-Ölfusá Ring road PPP project.
The project involves the relocation of Hringvegur north of Selfoss with the construction of a new bridge on Ölfusá. The 3.7 km long ring road is a 2 + 1 road with separate driving directions and can be widened to a 2 + 2 road later. It will connect the roundabout at Biskupstungnabraut which is currently under construction and is 1.6 km long west of Ölfusá to the current Hringvegur east of the town of Selfoss.
In addition to the bridge on Ölfusá, two tunnels are planned for pedestrians, as well as tunnels for drivers at Einholt west of Ölfusá.
