The government of Hungary has spent EUR 3.1 billion (US$ 3.3 billion) on renationalizing Liszt Ferenc International Airport near Budapest by acquiring an 80% stake from owner-operator Vinci Airports.
The goal is to increase passenger capacity at Liszt Ferenc International Airport from 15 million to nearly 20 million by 2030, aiming for 25 million later. The ministry highlighted the need for improved access, stating that the state must develop additional infrastructure, including a high-speed rail line, roads, hotels, and more parking spaces. A third terminal building is planned for 2032. The government estimates the railway link construction will cost around EUR1 billion (US$ 1.089 billion). Expansion planning for Terminal 2 is underway, followed by Terminal 3 construction.
