The Private Investment Promotion Agency (PROINVERSIÓN) has announced that it will award The Huancayo Wastewater Treatment Plant (Huancayo WWTP) project.
The Co-financed Private Initiative known as the Huancayo WWTP, which is of utmost importance for the city of Huancayo, is currently in the promotional and structuring phase under PROINVERSIÓN. This significant project gained viability approval from the Ministry of Housing, Construction, and Sanitation (MVCS). This vital initiative, with an estimated investment of PEN650 million (US$172 million), aims to address the severe contamination issue affecting the Mantaro, Shulcas, Chilca, Ancalá, and Chanchas rivers. Currently, these rivers suffer from 51 unregulated wastewater discharges, leading to water pollution and posing health risks to thousands of Huancayo residents.
The project is expected to be officially declared of interest during the Q2 of 2024 and subsequently awarded in the Second Semester of 2024.
