Hawaii lawmakers have passed a bill that gives the Stadium Authority the right to hold title to a site of 90 acres surrounding the stadium and lead development on those lands in the coming years. The Authority includes representatives from the public, private and nonprofit sectors, who, through the proposed bill, will be able to take over the planning and design of the New Aloha Stadium Entertainment District. This will accelerate the development and construction of the New Aloha Stadium.
Meanwhile, three development teams are competing in the state's tender for the construction of the stadium. Request for proposals (RFP) will be released in July 2021 and will provide more details on project financials, goals and expectations. In addition, two separate teams, one for the construction of the stadium and the other for the development of the project's real estate portion, are expected to be selected in early 2022.
