Guyana to launch tender for Demerara River Bridge

The Government of Guyana has announced the competitive tendering process for the Demerara River bridge replacement project. The tender documents will be opened on October 03, 2021. The project will replace the old floating bridge between Houston on the eastern bank of the Demerara River to Versailles on the western bank of the Demerara River. The new bridge will be 1,500m long with 50m high movable span and two approach roads of a total length of 600m.

The authority has already shortlisted following nine companies to participate in further stages of tendering :

  1. Ballast Nedam Infrastructure Suriname BV
  2. Odebrecht Engenharia e Construcao SA
  3. Boskalis Guyana
  4. Effiage Genie Civil Company Ltd
  5. Rizzani de Eccher Construction (Italy)
  6. China State Construction Engineering Corp
  7. China Gezhouba Group Company Limited
  8. China Railway International Group and China Road and Bridge Company JV
  9. China Railway Construction Corporation Ltd.

Once awarded, the construction works for the bridge is expected to be finished in two years.
