Government of Guatemala has approved the partnership agreement for the Escuintla - Puerto Quetzal Highway project. The highway is set to be first project to be implemented on public-private partnership (PPP) model in the country. Consortium comprised of Precon and Supercemento will be responsible for rehabilitation, administration and operation of the highway section as well as toll collection.
The 42-kilometer highway section is part of Central American route CA-9 South "A" connecting the municipality of Escuintla with Puerto Quetzal. The improvement works will provide a better service for the users of the 10,000 light vehicles, 3,800 heavy vehicles and more than 1,200 buses that circulate day in the place. The estimated investment value for the project is GTQ600 million (US$75.83 million).
