The Department of Transportation in the Philippines has announced the beginning of construction on the Ortigas and Shaw Boulevard stations under the Metro Manila Subway (MMSP) public-private partnership (PPP) Project.
Once the project is completed, the metro will be able to handle more than 519,000 passengers per day, reducing travel time from Valenzuela to Bikutan to 45 minutes. The groundbreaking of the avenue portion of Meralco Avenue in Pasig City, from Capitol Commons to Shaw Boulevard, will divert traffic until 2028 to make place for construction. The control package is almost 3.4 km long with two stations. The stations are connected by a 920.5-meter tunnel and extend further to 1.86 km.
The tunnels will be created according to the New Austrian Tunneling Method (NATM). The Metro Manila Subway PPP project is supported by loans from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
