The Greek Court of Audit has approved the contract to extend the concession for the Athens International Airport by 20 years. The current concession expired in 2026.
The concession extension as submitted to the privatization fund of Greece has reached EUR1.383 billion (US$1.58 bn), with the net sum to flow into the latter's coffers at EUR1.115 billion (US$ 1.274 bn).
The next target for Athens International Airport is to launch the tender for the sale of 30%, during the first 2 months of 2019, which will also make clear the official interest of investors for "El. Venizelos". The most important inducement to attract investors is the increase in passenger traffic, which had reached 75% by the end of 2017 compared to 5 years earlier (in 2012): In 2018 it is expected tha the passenger traffic will break all records with more than 24m passengers.
