Greece approves two PPP projects

The Greek Inter-Ministerial Committee approved the implementation of two new PPP projects for Athens Central Market Organization SA.

The two important projects were included to the Hellenic PPP programme on Monday, September 9th 2013, by decision of the Inter-Ministerial Committee for PPPs. The projects will be developed at the Athens Central Market in the Renti area and concern the construction, operation, maintenance and management of:

  • The new fish market via a PPP for a period of 25 years
  • An integrated traffic and parking control system via a PPP for a period of 15 years.

The new infrastructure is expected to attract investments of over €13 million and will be implemented with the private partner's funds, equity and debt. With the completion of the works, the first integrated food market in Greece will have been established.

Greece is currently working on several PPP projects, especially in the waste sector. Additionally, the Hellenic Republic Asset Development Fund (HRADF) is tendering several concessions for the management and operation of infrastructure assets. The HRADF is also selling public companies in hard privatizations.
